A Brief Introduction

The University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) was founded in 1952 following the amalgamation of the best departments in related fields of five element universities as a result of a nationwide reorganization of the higher education system. Over half a century of remarkable growth, it has developed into one of the most influential key national universities in China. Its main focus is on engineering, but it maintains a balanced programme of science, management, humanities, economics and law. True to its motto 'Rigorous in Learning and Research and Venerating Practice', it pays close attention to the contributions which talented people can be expercted to make to social and economic development and has constructed its educational practice with a view to training highly qualified professionals.

 

Teaching Staff and Facilities

USTB comprises nine schols. Among its teaching staff of 1500 there are 343 professors and 504 associate professors, including seven members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and three members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. With a total enrolment of 30,000 students, it offers 43 undergraduate programs, 109 Master's programs, 48 doctoral programs and 8 post-doctoral research fields. Besides twelve key national disciplines in the fields of metallurgy, materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering and mining, it is also home to two key national laboratories, a national engineering research center and thirteen key ministerial laboratories and research centers.

  • Material Science and Engineering (Includes Materials Science and Technology, Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials Engineering, Materials Engineering, Material Physics and Chemistry and Materials Processing and Control Engineering)
  • Information Engineering (Includes Measuring and Control Technology and Instruments, Electronic Information Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Communication Engineering, Information Security, Intelligent Science and Technology)
  • Economics and Management (Includes Information Management and Information Systems, Business Administration, Accounting, International Trade and Economics and Financial Engineering)
  • Applied Science (Includes Applied Chemistry, Applied Physics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Information and Computer Science and Biotechnology)
  • Humanities and Social Science (Includes Public Administration, Ideological Education, Law and Social Work)
  • Foreign Languages (Includes English, Russian, Indian, Spanish, French, Japanese, German, Arabic, Asian-African Languages, European Languages and Literatures, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Foreign Languages)

The above are mostly the bachelors degree programmes, other than these masters, doctors and post-doctors programmes are also taught at this university and have a wide range of fields for higher education which are not mentioned above
